For The Love of Smoothie Bowls!

You've seen them on blogs. They're all over instagram. Yes, smoothie bowls seem to have taken the world by storm this summer and their popularity doesn't seem to be decreasing anytime soon. After many, many pathetic attempts, I'd like to say that I'm getting quite good at making them! I decided to share my top three favourite ones with you!

My first success was while I was on vacation and we had just gone to the local farmer's market and picked up a variety of fresh fruits.

The base for this one was :
1/2 a cup of cut up chunks of mango
1 tbsp lemon juice
A handful of raspberries
1 peach

The topping, as shown included raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.

Since then I've made multiple other smoothie bowls, the ones shown above being my favourite. The recipes for these and others are to come. I've decided to do a Smoothie of the week, so once a week I'll be blogging about my current favourite smoothie/smoothie bowl and give you the recipe to try!

Bethany Beach

It's (kinda, sorta ,but not really) good to be back! I really do wish we could have stayed another week, but alas, I'm back to reality! Of course, if you're following my instagram @frxnch.kxss then you were able to see some little snapshots of my trip, but I've now got digital copies of the shots I took on my camera! So without further ado, here are the highlights of my trip to Delaware.

Summer Breakfast Ideas

So school is officially over for me this year! (Woohoo!) Summer is here and I'll now be able to spend more time doing the things I love-yes, that includes blogging! In spirit of summer I've decided to do a list of some of my favourite summer breakfasts. My natural path has banned me from wheat, gluten and most dairy for two months so if you have any meal ideas for me please leave a comment, I"ll love you forever for it!

First breakfast idea is a good old smoothie. If you couldn't tell from my previous post For The Love of Smoothies, I love smoothies. Click the link for some smoothie ideas!

Another of my favourite breakfasts to make is granola, vanilla flavoured yogurt and fresh, cut up strawberries. It's quick, delicious and healthy. Swap out the vanilla yoghurt for greek yogurt for less calories and more protein.

Whole wheat blueberry pancakes are great for mornings that aren't so rushed. I buy a whole wheat pancake mix and then add blueberries into the batter. You can also do this with raspberries, strawberries or for a treat-chocolate chips!

That's it for now, as I've still got quite a bit to do before I leave for my trip (four more days!!!). I'll probably end up doing a part two of this and seeing as breakfast is my favourite meal, don't be surprised if a part three comes is posted in the future!

Life Update

I'm so close to freedom! Tuesday will be my last day of school which means the start of my summer vacation! In two weeks today, I'll be in Delaware and I look forward to doing some blog posts from there! I'll be staying in Delaware for about a week and staying in NYC for three days on the way back. Expect lots of beach photos, shopping hauls and restaurant reviews. I'll be posting on my instagram @frxnch.kxss quite often during the trip, so you can follow that if you'd like.

COTD: Apple Crisp

I'm sure we've all experienced that feeling when you get a craving for something specific but you just can't figure out what it is. About two hours ago I figured out what my COTD (Craving of the day) was-apple crisp! Unfortunately, I went down to the kitchen to discover that my dad had eaten the last of it. Alas, there was no need for me to be sad for long! A little digging through my mom's cookbooks and I found a recipe for apple crisp which also happened to be rated "very good" by my mom (translation: 9-10/10).

Making it was a lot simpler than I expected. It took me about 10 minutes to mix everything together and then it baked in the oven for 40 minutes. The recipe is below but I recommend that you double the amount of oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and butter and put half the mix on the bottom for a thicker pie. Also notice the directions to cut butter into the mix. If you don't know how to to do that, definitely search it up because you won't get the crumble on top.

1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup butter/margarine
2 pounds of apples (4-6 medium sized apples)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Combine oats, brown sugar, flour cinnamon and a dash of salt in a medium sized bowl. Cut in butter until the mixture become small coarse crumbs and then set the bowl aside. Core, peel and slice the apples and then place fruit in a 10x6x2-imch baking dish. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the apples. Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes at 350F. Serves 6.
